RESOURCE: Using EchoVideo in CarmenCanvas Discussions

If you would like to use video within a discussion board in CarmenCanvas, either as an instructor or by allowing the use of video from your students, it is recommended to use EchoVideo instead of the native Canvas recorder. The native Canvas recorder has bandwidth issues and does not provide transcripts. Follow the steps below carefully to avoid encountering errors.

Record Your Video

  1. From your discussion post, click Reply
  2. From the rich content editor, click the down arrow next to the Plug Icon (NOT the pink Echo360 icon)
  3. Click View All
  4. Click Echo360 (NOT EchoVideo Deep Link. You may need to scroll down to find Echo360.)
  5. Under Create Content, click Launch Browser Capture
  6. Enter capture details
    1. Enter a title
    2. Publish to Library
    3. Optionally choose your webcam
    4. Click Add Screen and choose a screen or window
    5. Test your microphone
  7. Click the Record icon
  8. When finished, click the Stop icon
  9. Your video will process. Allow up to one hour for longer videos to process.

Post Your Video to Carmen

Once your video is processed, you may now post it to the Carmen discussion.

  1. Return to your previous browser tab, or follow steps 1-4 from above
  2. Under Choose Existing Content, click Launch Media Picker
  3. Your video will appear in your library under Recent Content. If you do not see your video, enter the title in the Search box.
  4. Choose your video and click Next
  5. Click the Embed button
  6. The video will appear in the rich content editor. Click Post Reply

If you have already recorded your video in another program, choose Upload Media instead of Launch Media Picker in step 2 of this section.
