How to use Equidox
Equidox is a software that makes tagging PDFs for accessibility as simple and efficient.
Pre-work
Before you begin your Equidox training, be sure to complete the following courses in BuckeyeLearn:
- Document Accessibility: PDF
- Document Accessibility: Microsoft Word
- Document Accessibility: Advanced PDF – Complex Tables and Forms
Training tutorial
Once you have completed your pre-work, watch the following video to learn how to use the software. You are encouraged to take notes as you watch.

Practice document
Now that you have watched and taken notes on the video, you are ready to remediate a document on your own in Equidox. Find the practice document task assigned to you on the Document Remediation Planner Board.
To begin, click on your assigned task and read the directions in the “Notes” section. The PDF you will be remediating will be included in the task as an attachment.
You are encouraged to refer back to the video and your notes, as needed.
Document file naming system
Documents will be uploaded to each task with a file name that includes the course code, last name of instructor, the current semester, and an abbreviated version of the document title. For example:
Setup guides
Read the following directions thoroughly to properly open and operate Adobe Acrobat and Equidox for document remediation.
Adobe Acrobat Scan & OCR
- Open Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Navigate to the “Tools” tab OR click on the “View more tools” button
- Locate the “Scan and OCR” tool and click “Add”
The Scan & OCR tool will now be added to your toolbar shortcut menu on the righthand side of your screen.

Click on the “SWITCH TO CLASSIC” button on the upper righthand side of the webpage.
Navigate to the “Import document” button on the lefthand side of the webpage.
Exporting from Equidox
Follow the directions in the video to export your document from Equidox. Upload the remediated document as an attachment on your task.
