These are basic troubleshooting steps to narrow down what network device may be causing an issue.
Rebooting a trouble device may fix connection problems.
1. Check if the issue is building wide or localized to a certain wiring closet. If users can connect to the Internet, but not other buildings, check the VPN tunnels on the firewall.
2. Check if workstations have a valid IP address. This could indicate a DHCP issue or a VPN tunnel issue.
3. If building wide issue, try pinging google.com and 8.8.8.8. If 8.8.8.8 works, but google.com doesn't,
it is a dns issue.
4. Ping the default gateway. If you can ping the default gateway, but nothing beyond, it is most likely
an OCIO service issue.
5. If you can't ping the default gateway, ping the firewall. If you can ping the firewall, check the WAN
uplink between the firewall and OCIO router.
6. If you can't ping the firewall, try pinging it from a device at the SOCC or Riffe. If you can ping it
from an outside device, this indicates a possible issue with the core switch or the connection between
the core and firewall.
7. Ping the core switch. If you can't ping the core switch, check the connection between the core and the
wiring closet of the floor you are on.
8. Ping the wiring closet of the floor you are on.
