Office365 - Users May Continuously be Prompted to Login

Summary

Office applications may continuously prompt users to login to their Microsoft account and activate the license.

Information

Scenario 1

If you are continuously prompted to login when launching Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc), try these steps:

  1. Open one of your Office applications (Word, Excel, etc).
  2. Click your name in the upper right corner and choose Sign Out.
  3. Close out of all Office applications.
  4. Re-launch the same Office application and sign in to your OSU account when prompted (students, use your BuckeyeMail address).
  5. When prompted, un-check the box “Allow my organization to manage my device”.
  6. You should now be signed in, which you can verify under File > Account.

Scenario 2

Another possible error upon signing in to Office applications is a CAA50021 error:

Error message: Something Went Wrong. Error code CAA50021.

Perform these steps as a possible resolution:

  1. Close all Office applications.
  2. From the Start Menu, click the Settings (gear) icon.
  3. Navigate to Accounts > Access work or school.
  4. Click on the Work or school account associated with your name.#@osu.edu and then click Disconnect.
  5. After the account is removed, re-launch an Office application and complete the sign-in process as documented in Scenario 1, Steps 4-6 (above).
