Windows 11 - Notable Changes from Windows 10

SUMMARY
Key changes to help you navigate Windows 11.

Start Menu: All Apps

To see all the apps from the Start Menu, click the Start Menu button then click All Apps (above the Pinned section). All apps will be listed alphabetically along with a search bar, like in Windows 10.

Start Menu: Recommended Apps and Layout

You can change the Start Menu layout and manage the recommended apps list by clicking Start Menu > Settings > Personalization > Start. Here you can choose a Start Menu layout and use the toggle buttons to show recent and frequently used apps. It is important to note that you can’t hide the recommended apps completely, but you can choose the More Pins layout and then toggle all three app buttons to off, which will make the section smaller.

Taskbar: Quick Launch

There is no functionality to add a Quick Launch or other custom toolbars to the taskbar. Suggested workaround: pin apps to the Start Menu by selecting Start > All Apps (or search for the desired app in the search bar) > right click the app > choose Pin To Start.

Default Browser

It is recommended that you set the default browser through the browser itself:

  • Chrome and Edge: click the menu icon (three dots in the upper right corner) > Settings > Default Browser (in left pane) > Make Default button
  • Firefox: click the menu icon (three lines in the upper right corner) > Settings > Make Default button
