Switching a student group partway through the semester (Instructors)

Several instructors have inquired about best practices for switching up student groups in the middle of a course offering. This may come up if one or more student groups/individuals need to be moved to different groups; if this occurs after group assignments have already been submitted (either graded or to be graded), you can do the following within any group set to ensure seamless group transition with no impact to students' grades:

  1. Go into the "People" tab of the course and locate one of your group sets. Then, using the three dots on the right side of your window, choose Clone Group Set.
  2. Rename the cloned group set to differentiate it from the original (adding something like "NEW" to its name, for example).
  3. Re-organize students in this new group set to accommodate any student changes needed.
  4. Within any upcoming assignments, use the new group set instead of the old set.
