VIDEO: Hypothesis Training

Introduction to Hypothes.is

Hypothes.is is a social annotation tool that can be embedded as an assignment directly into your CarmenCanvas course. Watch the video below to see Hypothes.is in action.

Before you begin

If your assignment requires your students to annotate a PDF document, you must first ensure the document is digitally accessible for screen reader users. To ensure document accessibility, fill out the General Accessibility Request form and select "document remediation assistance" from the dropdown menu. You will be prompted to add your document(s) as an attachment to the request. Within 10 business days, you will receive a digitally accessible version of your PDF that you may then upload to your Hypothes.is assignment.

Request a template

To request a Hypothes.is assignment template for your course, fill out the Carmen Template Support & Requests form and select "Hypothes.is template package" from the dropdown menu. You will receive a module containing:

  1. Instructor resources

  2. Student resources

  3. Practice Hypothes.is assignment

    • The practice Hypothes.is assignment should be provided to students at the beginning of the semester, or directly before their first Hypothes.is assignment. The practice assignment will introduce your students to Hypothes.is in a low-stakes environment where they will be prompted to make their first highlights, annotations and responses. The practice assignment can be optional, ungraded or graded for participation.
