How do I set my email to autoarchive using the Outlook Web Application (OWA)?

It is best to always use OWA to set archiving rules. Archiving rules set in Outlook will only run when Outlook is open.

Log in to OWA via email.osu.edu. On the left side of the window, you can see your inbox. Make sure that the folders you want to archive are nested under your Inbox. Subfolders use their parent folder's archive policy by default, so it's important to nest the folder you would like to archive under your Inbox. I have already done so here.

Right click on your inbox and select Archive Policy. Here you can select how long you want to keep emails before they move to your online archive. I have all emails older than 6 months set to move to my online archive.

To verify that your archive is working, you can un-collapse the Personal Archive section, and you will be able to see any emails that are older than the policy you have set. For example, my Big Kid Stuff folder shows up under my Baer, Caitlin R. inbox and under my Personal Archive inbox because it has items that are both younger and older than 6 months. My Alumni Association folder only shows up under Personal Archive because it only has items older than 6 months, so I deleted it from under my Baer, Caitlin R. inbox.

The online archiving process can be very confusing, so if you have questions, be sure to call us at 614-688-4447, or you can email us at asctech@osu.edu.
