Office 365 for Faculty and Staff

Overview

Office 365 is available for faculty and staff beginning July 26, 2017. The students already have access via their BuckeyeMail accounts.

This means you can install up to five copies of Office on personal devices and use the web version of Office anywhere. Unlike previous 'at home' offerings, there is no restriction that Office 365 be used only for OSU work; this is a personal copy you can use as long as you are affiliated with OSU.

Highlights

  • Faculty and staff can now install Office on personal machines. You get five licenses.
  • ASCTech will continue to install Office on OSU-owned Windows/macOS devices.
    • End users can install Office 365 apps on OSU-owned iPads as there is not a separate enterprise license for iOS.
  • We have cloud storage in Office 365: OneDrive.
    • OneDrive is approved for up to private/S3 but not restricted/S4. Thus student data is ok; credit cards, SSNs, and PHI data are not.
    • OneDrive makes it possible for you to save documents directly from Office 365 on Windows and Mac.
    • OneDrive provides 5TB of storage, with a limit of 100GB max per file.
  • Employees who are students will get two Office 365 accounts; use the employee account for data relating to your employment.
    • Student who are student employees with only have the BuckeyeMail login.
