Details
In order to be in compliance with security requirements, all University owned iPads are required to have an 8 digit alphanumeric passcode. This does not affect fingerprint or Face ID authentication. They will continue to work as expected. The new passcodes must contain at least one number and one letter. More complex passcodes are accepted, but not required. On October 31, 2018, ASCTech will deploy the university's passcode requirements to all managed iPads and users will be presented with a series of dialog boxes.
Users are cautioned to record their passcode in a secure location to ensure that they will remember it. ASCTech is unable to recover forgotten passcodes, or unlock iPads with unknown passcodes. As a result, in the event of a forgotten passcode, all data stored on the iPad will be lost.
Procedure
Users will be greeted with a box asking them to setup their passcode. Users may defer this change for up to 59 minutes by pressing "Later." The message will continue coming up if the users puts their device to sleep during that time frame.
Once the user clicks "Continue" or runs out of time, they will first be asked to provide their current passcode.
User will then be asked to enter a new passcode consisting of 8 or more letters and numbers.
Re-enter the new passcode
Passcode will be saved to the device. The next time the device is powered on or woken up, the user will be greeted with a passcode entry screen that brings up the full keyboard.
