Using ArcGIS while off-campus without an internet connection

Using ArcGIS software through OSU's site license requires you to be connected to either on campus via Ethernet or wreless, or from off-campus locations using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. Ordinarily, no matter what method is used, there will need to be an internet connection. However, if you know you will be using ArcGIS without an internet connection (e.g. while doing field research in a remote location), a temporary license can be borrowed for up to 60 days. The following steps apply:

  1. Navigate to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator.
  2. Point to Borrow/Return under the Desktop folder on the left side of the window.
  3. Check Desktop Advanced and any other licenses you will be using, then click Apply.
  4. When you are ready to return the borrowed licenses, return to this page, uncheck everything, and click Apply.
