Important notes about Honorlock for your students

  • Honorlock currently supports testing on Mac, Windows, or Chromebooks. Testing is NOT SUPPORTED on iPads, tablets, or cellphones.
  • Review the Ohio State article "Getting Started with Honorlock for Students".

Getting ready to use Honorlock

  1. Ensure your computer meets the Honorlock minimum system requirements.
  2. Check to ensure that you have removed Proctorio's Chrome extension. This step is necessary because the Proctorio Chrome extension will block the Honorlock browser extension from becoming active.
  3. Install the Honorlock Chrome extension. Review this help article for a step-by-step guide to its installation.
  4. Locate all quizzes and exams which previously used Proctorio and ensure that you removed the Proctorio elements in Canvas. The quizzes and exams will still show the following image below if it contains any Proctorio elements:

Configuring Honorlock in your Carmen course

  1. Navigate to your course in CarmenCanvas.
  2. Click on Settings in the left hand navigation bar of your Carmen course page.Navigation menu of canvas course with settings selected
  3. Once in your course's settings, click on the Navigation tab.

  4. Then, find Honorlock in the list of hidden navigation items.

  5. Next, drag and drop Honorlock into the section of enabled course navigation items OR click on the 3 vertical dots next to Honorlock and select Enable.

  6. Once you've enabled Honorlock, click save at the bottom of the page.

  7. You should now see Honorlock in the left hand navigation bar of your Carmen course. Click on Honorlock to get started.

Building an Exam Profile

  1. First, create your quiz or exam in the quiz tool in CarmenCanvas.
  2. Next, go to the Honorlock tab.
  3. Navigate to the hamburger menu in the upper right hand corner of the Honorlock window and select manage profiles. Construct your customized exam profile with your name. Review how to manage, create, and edit Exam profiles in Honorlock.
    • Note the following settings which the College of Pharmacy recommends using:
      • Record Webcam: Record student's testing environment using webcam.
      • Record Screen: Record student's screen during exam.
      • Record Web Traffic: Log student's internet activity.
      • Basic or Scientific Calculator depending on your course's needs.
      • Disable copy/paste: Block clipboard actions.
      • Disable Printing: Block printing exam content.
      • Browser Guard: Limit browser activity to exam content and allowed site URLs only.
    • Note the student guidelines which the College of Pharmacy recommends using:
      • (Depending on your student's circumstances) Take Exam in Public Area: Background noise and multiple people are expected
      • Background Noise Allowed: Occasional sounds expected in the testing environment.
  4. Once you've built your Exam Profile, you are ready to begin enabling Honorlock for quizzes and exams.

Enabling Honorlock for a quiz or exam

If you already have an Exam Profile, just apply to your exams.

Creating a Practice Exam in Honorlock

It is highly recommended that you create and assign a practice Honorlock quiz in your Carmen course during the first week of the course. This allows your students to run through system checks to ensure they meet the minimum system requirements and have the Chrome browser extension installed.

Accommodations for Honorlock quizzes and exams

Instructors add extra time in Canvas Quizzes. Please note the exam access is controlled entirely by Canvas.  The Honorlock window will remain open until the student closes the window or the exam ends.

How to adjust Quiz time in Canvas

  1. Make sure you have created and published a quiz with a time limit.
  2. Follow the Canvas instructions to increase the quiz time limit using the Moderate This Quiz link in Canvas.
    • Note: If you don't see this feature, please verify your quiz is published.
  3. You can change extended time for individual students or multiple students who have the same extended time.
