Overview
Any computer equipment should be vetted through ASCTech before purchase, please include unit ASCTech approval on the requisition.
All Dell products are purchased through Buckeye Buy. All Apple products must be purchased through TechHub. Please note that not all items in the TechHub Departmental Pricing Guide are supported by ASCTech. Prices are subject to change. If you have questions, please contact ASCTech, we will be happy to help find what best fits your needs.
NOTE: The BSC uses these prices to determine if it is a standard or not. If your price does not match send an email to the Service Area Approver before submitting the eRequest, then attach that email to the eRequest. Anything different than the standards requires approval, see Related Articles, Computer Purchasing Guidelines.
NOTE: When purchasing computing equipment using university funds (including research/grant funding), please consult with your local ASC Tech service desk. This will ensure equipment is configured and inventoried according to University and Department policies, prior to usage.
We'll try to keep these prices updated, but the Buckeye Buy prices can change at any time.

Accessories
Please reach out to ASCTech for assistance with any accessories needed for the new computer, such as monitors, USB-C port replicators, cameras, docking stations, etc.
Printers
ASCTech does not have standard printers.
- ASCTech encourages Follow Me Printing to the unit Xerox machines. https://uniprint.osu.edu/follow-me-printing
- ASCTech encourages reaching out to your unit’s ASCTech contact if you want guidance as to what is compatible.
- In Workday hardware approvers only do a basic check that the printer has Ethernet and doesn't have major red flags like requiring a web account (HP e series).
- Thus we assume the non-ASCTech requestor has done research or contacted ASCTech.
- Your ASCTech unit lead can provide more information and recommendations.
- Networking:
- Printers must have a wired network port.
- Fallback for networking issues will be direct USB hookup.
- iPads can only print to Follow Me Print printers.
- ASCTech does not do maintenance on printers:

Warranties
ASC Computer Replacement Program Computers
Note, standard computers from the ASC Computer Replacement Program have a minimal warranty, as we stock spares. If a replacement computer has a hardware issue we will take an equivalent machine from spares, which may be new or a repaired machine. This will become your machine so you do not have to restore files a second time.
Dell Warranty
All Dells include a base 4 year on site warranty. New for late 2020: Standard laptops include accidental damage protection by default, but check with ASCTech - though it is included by default some people opt out of accidental damage or have us obtain custom quotes without. ASCTech does not recommend accidental damage on desktop machines.
Dell ExpressCharge batteries have a one year warranty.
Dell also has a ProSupport warranty, however for desktops and laptops the extra cost is rarely worth it. (See attached chart.)
Apple Warranty Options
- Apple computers should be purchased with AppleCare+ or the TechHub Protection Plan. Both include accidental damage protection, but there are differences in the cost and coverage. (See chart.)
- AppleCare+ cost is based on the Apple model, TechHub Protection Plan is based on purchase price.
- ASCTech does not have a preference; feel free to discuss with your ASCTech team what is best suited for your needs.
- *NR (Not Recommended) The price differential on desktop computers makes AppleCare+ the better deal as desktops are less subject to accidental damage. (TechHub Protection Plan can be added to desktops as a non-standard purchase.)
- 4 year AppleCare+ plans are available on request.
- New for Autumn 2021: Mac laptops have no incident fees, desktops still have incident fees for accidental damage.
